twestival anyone?

I hold an ever growing conviction that to follow the Way of Jesus is to participate in bringing about the Kingdom of God wherever you see it is at work. Of course that happens through intentional church ministries, but the kingdom of God is not limited to that.

One example of this would be Twestival:

On 12 February 2009 100+ cities around the world will be hosting Twestivals which bring together Twitter communities for an evening of fun and to raise money and awareness for charity: water.

I’m going to be a part of the Austin Twestival, and I get excited to see how communities that have connected online are coming together in person to serve the greater good. In this case, it is an organization called charity: water:

charity: water is a non profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations by funding sustainable clean water solutions in areas of greatest need.

That’s something I can get behind, and I hope you can too. Twestivals are happening in over 100 cities. Check the righthand column on the Twestival site to find out how you can take part in your city. If there isn’t one, maybe someone with unsafe drinking water is waiting for you to step up and put it together.

  • John,

I am very happy to hear you are getting involved. When they asked me to plan this in Austin, I was reminded that Jesus says that what we do for the least of these, we also do for Him.

I also think of Matthew 5:14-16, which tells us that if you have a lamp on a table, you display it for all to see. This cause is that lamp, and I want everyone to see that giving to those who need it most is beautiful. That’s why I want nothing more than to sell out of tickets!

Please remind people that they can buy tickets here:

Thank you for spreading God’s word and helping in this cause!

  • Hey John!

Saw this post and thought I would invite you to another great water event!

I work for Water to Thrive, a charity located here in Austin that is dedicated to providing clean safe water to rural Ethiopia. Our charity partners with Glimmer and has it’s roots in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

We’re getting together on June 25 at Lambert’s Downtown BBQ for a great benefit! Good food, great music from Gary Clark, Jr, and a great time. All for a great cause! Tickets are $25 per person. Contact me to purchase tickets or for more information.

Thanks! I hope to see you there!
